Woman loses P5M jewelry to personal driver

Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  Police are hunting down a personal driver who allegedly stole P5 million worth of assorted jewelry from his 78-year-old female employer in Maria Luisa Subdivision, Barangay Banilad yesterday morning.

Chief Insp. Romeo Santander, who heads the City Intelligence Branch, identified the suspect as Jonathan Forosuelo, 25, a native of Clarin, Misamis Occidental and a temporary resident of Barangay Lahug.

Angeles Mathew said the suspect barged into her room at 6 am yesterday and forcibly took her jewelry. The suspect covered her mouth with his hand to prevent her from shouting.

The victim said she tried to fight back but the suspect was strong enough for her considering her age.

According to Santan-der, the suspect has been working as Mathew’s personal driver for about six months already. Santander said the CIB is working together with the  Theft and Robbery Section, and the Mabolo Police Station to arrest the suspect.

The police are still gathering further information  on the incident because they also received reports that the jewelry were actually left inside the car.

“Dunay duha ka-version so ato pa sad ning gi-check. Gitan-aw sad nato karon ang background sa suspect,” said Santander.

Santander said they are also checking out the possibility that Forosuelo is a member of a robbery gang from Mindanao.

“Hopefully not, although we also do not discount the possibility,” he said. —FPL (FREEMAN)
