Woman found dead at sea in Oslob

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A woman who was believed to be a victim of summary execution was found dead wrapped with a mat, tied with a nylon rope and floating in the seawaters of Barangay Lagundi, Oslob, Wednesday afternoon.

The woman was no longer identifiable because it was already bloated and was already in a state of decomposition.

The body was found by Virgilio Janon, a fisherman, who reported the incident to the police.

The woman was described wearing a gray sleeveless shirt, a pair of black pedal pants, pink underwear, and about 5’2” to 5’4” tall.

Based on the results of the autopsy conducted by Dr. Christopher Amit, municipal health officer, the victim’s cause of death was the fracture in her occipital bone which resulted to massive brain injury.

Signs of choking and strangulation were also seen.

Amit also estimated that the victim was killed about three weeks before the body was found.

PO3 Nelson Saquibal, chief investigator, suspected that the victim was killed by more than one person however, they could not determine if the victim was raped before she was killed.

“Sa akong tan-aw mura’g gituok ni unya nisuway siguro og lugnot ba unya gibunalan kaha sa ulo. (She may have been strangled and when she tried to resist, they struck her head),” Saquibal told The FREEMAN.

Saquibal added that the victim was possibly killed in another town and was dumped in the sea until it reached the said barangay due to the current.

Police are now coordinating with other towns to check reports regarding a missing person.

The body was immediately buried at the Oslob public cemetery due to foul smell.

“I-exhume ra na if naay mangita nga relatives, (It will be exhumed if relatives will come looking for her),” Saquibal said. (FREEMAN)
