Truck runs over boy

CEBU, Philippines - A 10-year-old boy died Tuesday evening after a ten-wheeler truck ran over him while playing with other children in Sitio Lawom, Barangay Carreta.

Reyboy Pallares and his playmates were playing near the truck that was parked along the road. The victim crawled underneath the truck to get his slipper just as the driver, Jaime Lucero, got on the truck and drove it.

City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) investigators found that the near tire of the truck ran over the boy killing him instantaneously.

Paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) tried to rush the boy to the Cebu City Medical Center but he died on the way to the hospital.

Lucero said he did not know that Pallares went under his truck. According to him, he did not see the boy because he passed in front of the truck before taking on the driver’s seat.

Lucero was arrested and is now detained while waiting for the filing of a criminal complaint against him. The police said the parents may also be held liable for negligent. — (FREEMAN)
