Annabelle confident of her candidacy

AJ de la Torre - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Talent manager Annabelle Rama, a neophyte in the political scene, is more confident of her chances to win in the congressional race against former north district representative Raul del Mar.

During the 888 News Forum yesterday at the Marco Polo Plaza hotel, Rama admitted that she is still learning from family members who already have experience in politics but does not believe that this slims down her chances of winning a seat in congress.

In fact, Rama, cousin of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, said that she is confident of her candidacy either against del Mar or his daughter, incumbent North District Rep. Cutie del Mar.

The younger del Mar was set to run for another term but gave way to her father.

Rama said yesterday that included in her plans for the north district would be security of food for her constituents, health programs, education, and other infrastructure developments.

But she admitted that she is still learning the specific details of the projects that the north district needs and how she can help various sectors like the urban poor.

Rama cited her experiences when she was still poor as one of the advantages she has over del Mar who, she said, would not know the needs of those on the poverty line.

She added that this is why she would focus on programs to alleviate poverty  and not waste time on 'flyover projects.'

The construction of flyovers in the different parts of the city that the del Mars proposed is opposed by Mayor Rama and various organizations.

Further, Rama said she believes her being feisty is an added advantage in congress.

Rama also explained that contrary to criticisms that she is rarely seen in Cebu, she regularly comes to the city even if her job is in Manila. – (FREEMAN)
