CIDG-CIS advocacy pushed in schools

CEBU, Philippines -  The Community Investigative Support (CIS) team of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) under the leadership of Director Samuel Pagdilao Jr. visited the University of the Visayas (UV)-Main Campus and other universities in Cebu to promote the program to the youth.

“We want to spread our advocacy of community people to the younger generation and to prepare the young people who will become future leaders of the country,” said Pagdilao.

The CIS, which was founded last August 2011, is a CIDG community relations program designed to enlist the active support of the community to solve and suppress crimes and criminals.

Pagdilao recalled having held the 1st National CIS Summit in Cebu in August which was the last official function attended by the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo before his plane crashed off Masbate City.

“A year since we founded the CIS, I am proud to say that we have effectively etched into public consciousness the name CIS and its advocacy of enjoining the community members to ‘get involved’ in bringing about peace, order and security in every community,” Pagdilao said.

The CIS has already over 50,000 members all over the country composed of selected individuals of good moral character from the community or organized groups, based on recruitment and selection criteria set by CIDG.

According to Pagdilao, these members have worked wonders in multiplying the administrative and operational accomplishments of CIDG.

“By augmenting the meager resources of the CIDG, the CIS has contributed greatly to the solution of more crimes, arrest of more notorious wanted criminals and busting of more criminal syndicates by the PNP’s premier investigative arm more than ever before,” Pagdilao said.

These people also voluntarily offer services and other resources to this group without compensation and material consideration.

Through the CIS, the CIDG was also able to gather information that led to the arrest of 3,318 fugitives, the seizure of 409 loose forearms and the neutralization of 13 organized crime groups and the arrest of its 144 members.

CIS aims to develop and strengthen CIDG-Community partnership as well as organize and mobilize CIDG’s Non-Organic Human Resources.

CIS would also want to ensure community cooperation in gathering information for intelligence and counter-intelligence use and subsequently, for investigation.

The agents serve as CIDG’s investigative partners, who will assist the department in gathering evidence that could lead to the immediate solution  of  cases.

They also help CIDG in intelligence and counter-intelligence aspects as well as in gathering information on Organized Crime Groups (OCGs) and Criminal Gangs (CGs), most wanted persons, sensational or high profile crimes and loose firearms.  (FREEMAN)
