Alegria adopts Gwen
CEBU, Philippines - The Municipality of Alegria has declared Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia as its own.
The municipal government has honored Garcia as an adopted daughter of the town by virtue of a resolution dated November 12, 2012 approved by Mayor Amelita Guisadio.
The conferment was done because of Garcia’s contributions to the municipality. Garcia was born in Dumanjug but she acquired residency in Barili where she is running for congress in the 2013 elections.
The resolution said that Garcia has always been supportive of the socio-economic and cultural development of Alegria even before she became governor. Garcia used to be consultant to her father, then Governor Pablo Garcia.
Gov. Garcia has caused the realization of the Alegria Heritage Park and other tourism oriented promotions, development of Kawayan Festival and other development-oriented projects geared towards the improvement of its constituency.
Framed copy of the said resolution along with a plaque of recognition containing the declaration were handed over to Garcia before the people of Alegria during the Kawayan Festival last December 2.
“Sa kinahiladman sa akong kasingkasing, dawata ang akong pasalamat kaninyo Alegria, sa pakigtambayayong kanako, sa pagdawat kanako, sa pagsagop kanako,” the governor said.
During the occasion, Garcia also turned over P300,000 financial assistance to the town for their fiesta celebration in honor of its patron Saint Francis Xavier.
She was accompanied by third district Rep. Pablo John “PJ” Garcia in unveiling of the heritage marker of the town’s watchtower at the municipal heritage park.
Deputy Speaker Pablo “Pabling” Garcia, former Danao City vice mayor Ramon “Boboy” Durano, IV, and former Provincial Board member Carmiano Kintanar were also present during the activity.
Gov. Garcia also formally turned- over the tourist bus, which the town won as one of the top 10 performing local government units in the expanded Green and Wholesome Environment that Nurtures program of the Capitol.
Mayor Guisadio said they were honored with the visit of the provincial officials, who are committed and were instrumental to the improvement of the town.
The mayor pointed out that the heritage park and the tourist bus are just two of the several products of their cooperation with the provincial government.—(FREEMAN)
