CEBU, Philippines - A 75-year-old woman was stabbed and hacked to death with an ax by her cousin in the mountain barangay of Cambigong, Samboan town yesterday dawn.
Quirina Lisondra died of a stab wound in her chest as well as hack wounds in the head, face, and different parts of the body.
The suspect was identified as 58-year-old Panfilo Cabales, an alleged ex-convict.
PO2 Catalino Ricablanca of the Samboan Police Station said the incident happened inside Lisondra’s house at 4 am while the victim was allegedly sleeping.
Neighbors reportedly heard loud thuds coming from Lisondra’s house. They believed that the two figured in another argument and hit each other with wood.
The following morning, the suspect, whose half part of the body was paralyzed after suffering a stroke, went out of the house and confessed that he killed his elder cousin.
The suspect disclosed that he stabbed the victim’s chest and then as if not contented, he took an ax and hit her face, head, and other parts of the body. She died on the spot.
Police responded and the suspect surrendered, claiming self-defense as the victim allegedly tried to attack him first.
Neighbors said the two often figured into heated arguments over ownership of an inherited land.
The suspect reportedly wanted to retrieve the land he left behind after being imprisoned but the victim allegedly refused to give it back.
A case for murder will be filed against the suspect. –(FREEMAN)
