Bantay Dagat members seize blasted fishes

CEBU, Philippines - The Bantay Dagat Commission of the Cebu City government confiscated 12 containers of blasted Budburon fish at Pier 6 yesterday dawn.

Ranulfo Sebusa, head of the Cebu City Bantay Dagat Commission, said eachcontainer of the dynamited fishes is worth P2,000.

The containers were seized from a Canter truck driven by one Rodulfo Cauba.

These were reportedly caught in Palawan and were shipped to Daanbantayan.

Bantay Dagat received an information that Cauba will deliver the illegally caught fish from San Remegio to Pasil Fish Market in Cebu City.

The Bantay Dagat Commission immediately proceeded to Pier 6 area to catch Cauba even before he could reach the Pasil Fish Market.

Sebusa said the physical appearance of the fishes makes it obvious that they were caught through dynamite fishing.

The Bantay Dagat released the driver after they confiscated the containers of fish.

“Wala daw siya kaila kung kinsa ang nagpa-deliver. Igo ra daw siya gipahatod,” Sebusa said.

Sebusa said they are still checking the identity of the dealer of the dynamited fishes, although he admitted that it would be difficult to trace him.

The fish were delivered to the different charitable institutions in Cebu City.

Sebusa said the fishes were safe for human consumption as these were not caught through cyanide poisoning. — (FREEMAN)
