Paraffin test for cop whose gun was used in alleged suicide try
CEBU, Philippines - The result of the paraffin test will determine the fate of PO2 Antonio Tejero as to doubts in the alleged suicide attempt of a fratman inside the San Nicolas Police Station.
Homicide Section chief Chief Insp. Sara Jean Recla, said that based on their investigation, Glenn Cagulada, 35, apparently grabbed Tejero’s gun and shot himself in the mouth.
However, Recla said that there would always be suspicions especially because no one witnessed the shooting, so the paraffin test will clear the doubts.
“Normal man ‘nang pagduda so gi-subject nato sa paraffin test si Tejero para mawagtang ang foul play,” said Recla.
Tejero willingly underwent the paraffin test, Recla said.
Cagulada, a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity and a native of Cagayan De Oro City where he works as a tour guide, reportedly shot himself inside the San Nicolas Police Station last Monday morning.
Cagulada was taken to the police station for safekeeping after attempting to commit suicide last Sunday evening.
Around 10:45 a.m. last Monday, Tejero had just arrived at the police station from the regional headquarters when Cagulada followed him and grabbed his Glock 9mm pistol from the holster.
During their scuffle for the gun, Cagulada reportedly shot himself in the mouth.
The Homicide Section chief added that they will also talk to Cagulada once he is able to speak. His jaw was broken because the bullet went through it before lodging in his nape.
The victim was transferred to the Cebu Doctor’s Hospital for surgery after he was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center right after the shooting incident.
Chief Insp. Bonifacio Garciano, head of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch, said they will invite Tejero to their office to shed light on the incident as per directive of Cebu City Police Office director Melvin Ramon Buenafe. —(FREEMAN)
