CH fuel supply only good for one week

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Government’s fuel supply might keep the city vehicles running for barely a week.

General Services Office head Rolando Ardosa said the city’s fuel has reached a critical point once again.

He said that the P20 million worth of purchase they made last month might last only for one week if they could not find a way to look for another source of fund.

The city’s fuel budget for 2012 has run depleted last September yet.

This triggered the Mayor to impose austerity measures by reducing to half the fuel allocation of city-owned vehicles except for garbage trucks and police cars.

The GSO was able to use the savings of its office and some savings from other departments like the Mayor’s office to purchase additional supply that made them survive the month of September and October.

But the additional supply is almost used up.

Ardosa said he is requesting the council to approve the Supplemental Budget No. 2 this week where they requested for additional P30 million to purchase fuel.

The P30 million shall suffice for November up to January just as the 2013 Annual Budget will be available.

The council is yet to approve the P267 million SB2.

The SB 2 was submitted by the Mayor last July yet. The council said it has not been approved because the executive department keeps on failing to submit the documents the council required.

The mayor said SB 2 only included the necessary items the city needs to fund.

“Maayo unta aprobahan na sa council karong Wednesday. Kung dili, maglisod na sad ta (I hope this will be approved on Wednesday otherwise we will be having a hard time),” Ardosa said.

He said a lot of department heads, even councilors are already complaining. —FPL (FREEMAN)
