CENTCOM to city Camp roads n need of repair

Rene U. Borromeo - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Mayor Michael Rama was asked by officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Central Command to improve the roads in Camp Lapu-Lapu that are already dilapidated and in need of immediate repair.

Camp Lapu-Lapu commander Col. Restituto Baclayon told the mayor that several high ranking officials of the government, including foreign dignitaries, military officers and civilian officials frequently visit the military headquarters in Barangay Apas.

Baclayon explained that it would be very shameful to the visiting officials if the roads inside the military camp are dilapidated so he is asking for help from the city government because Centcom does not have enough funds for it.

“The main concern of this request is the asphalting of the main roads that also happens to be the Centcom jogging lane.  Please help the command  by asphalting the Centcom jogging lane area,” said Baclayon.

Rama just referred the matter to City Administrator Jose Marie Poblete for further comment.

Poblete said he asked the Department of Engineering and Public Works under city engineer Kenneth Enriquez to first evaluate the request.

Poblete also asked the city engineers to find out how much the project may cost if the city will approve the request to have road asphalted.  The said road measures almost one kilometer.

“Ako na nga giawhag ang taga-DEPW nga himoan nila og evaluation kon pila ang magasto sa City Hall kay basi sa initial survey sa mga military engineers ang gitas-on sa karsada nga aspaltohonon dul-an sa usa ka kilometro,” Poblete said.

According to Poblete the city has other priority projects to implement, that is why they cannot quickly say if the request will be approved.

The road inside the Camp Lapu-Lapu is also being used as an alternative road for those going to Barangay Apas from Lahug and vice-versa.  —(FREEMAN)
