CEBU, Philippines - The coming May 2013 election is the perfect time to start on efforts to eradicate the power caused by political dynasties in the Philippine government.
This was according to Atty. Aveniscio Piramide during yesterday’s forum organized by the University of the Visayas Political Science Society, the College of Arts and Science and Social Science Department.
Entitled “International relations and sovereignty,” keynote speaker, Piramide, urged the students to do their part this coming elections and practice wisely their right to vote.
He said that students have a big responsibility and that they need to study well the profile of the candidates before voting.
Piramide said he will be campaigning against senatorial candidates Juan “Jack” Ponce Enrile Jr., son of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile; Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, brother of Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Ejercito; and Senator Allan Peter Cayetano, brother of incumbent Senator Pia Cayetano, who is also running for another term.
It is because they come from families who have been or are still in politics at present.
Piramide said these names win during the elections because of the public’s fast recognition of their prominent families and not because of their accomplishments.
Aside from the three, Piramide said he and some other people, who are all out in supporting this cause, will be coming up with a list of other candidates that they will be campaigning against.
Piramide admitted that it will not be an easy fight but they are optimistic that the reputation of the Philippine government being run by political dynasties can be stopped.
He asked the students to start with the coming election by choosing candidates who have the mind and heart. (FREEMAN)
