Orphaned teenager shot in the head

CEBU, Philippines - A teenager, who was an orphan, was reportedly salvaged by unidentified two men riding on a motorcycle yesterday morning in Barangay Toong, Cebu City.

The victim, 18-year-old Jerry Boy Mansalay, of Sipalay Negros Oriental, just went out of an orphanage last June.

He sustained a gunshot wound on his head and died on the spot.

Chief Insp. Sarah Jean Recla, chief of Homicide Section, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said they will still have to investigate the motive of the shooting.

“Mihawa siya last June this year lang kay gusto kuno niyang mahibaw-an ang iyang pagkatawo,” Recla said. (He got out of the orphanage saying he wanted to know more about himself.)

She added that Mansalay was staying in the SOS Childrens Orphanage since he was three years old, and together with his two sisters.

Their grandmother was the one who delivered them at the said orphanage saying she was financially unstable and the parents of the children were already dead.

After Mansalay went out from the orphanage, he temporarily stayed in his elder sister’s boarding house in Barangay Pardo while his younger sister is still staying at the orphanage.

Based on the investigation of the Homicide Police, Mansalay was fetched by two unidentified men riding on a motorcycle, from the boarding house at around 4 a.m. yesterday.

At 5:30 a.m., Mansalay’s body was seen in Barangay Toong sprawled and bloodied, with a gunshot wound on his head.

Recla said it is impossible that Mansalay’s’ body was only thrown at the said place because they saw that the blood is still fresh.

She also said that they haven’t seen any criminal record of the victim although they still have to dig deeper.

They also have to look for witnesses who might have recognized the two assailants.
