Tanod shot dead in Kamagayan
CEBU, Philippines - A barangay tanod died after he was shot repeatedly by one of three men riding on a motorcycle at Sanciangko St., Barangay Kamagayan last Friday night.
Police identified the fatality as Hermogenes “Boy” Borres, 56, who once served as chief tanod of the barangay.
Investigation showed that Borres was talking with one Eduardo Filosopo, 48, along the road near Citi Center at past 7 pm last Friday, when a man suddenly approached and shot him thrice.
The gunman then went back and rode a waiting motorcycle where two of his cohorts were waiting. The driver then sped off.
PO3 Geoffrey Gutual of the Homicide Section said responding policemen rushed the victim to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead a few hours later.
The tanod died of gunshot wounds in the right side of his upper chest, right arm, and right side of the body.
Police recovered three empty shells and a slug of a caliber .45 pistol from the area where the tanod was shot.
Police are still determining the motive behind the attack as no witness has surfaced yet to identify the assailants but are not discounting the possibility that it may be drug-related.
In July 2010, the tanod was arrested by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency after he reportedly sold drugs to PDEA agents in a buy bust operation. A firearm was reportedly seized from Borres back then.
Meanwhile, a college student was injured after she was stabbed with a pair of scissors by her roommate in Barangay Duljo-Fatima yesterday morning.
The victim was identified as Rosa Lie Amor , 25, 4th year college student of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University, and a native of Biri, Northern Samar, while the suspect was Rose De Guzman, 23, who is also from the same town.
The victim alleged that she figured in a verbal tussle with the suspect over personal matters prior to the incident.
The suspect then got hold of a pair of scissors and stabbed the victim on the left thigh and right arm.
The victim’s cousin rushed her to the Miller Hospital for treatment while the suspect fled.
Police said the victim is not showing any interest in filing charges against the suspect as she was not cooperative in their investigation and even requested not to have the incident recorded in the police blotter. —/MIT (FREEMAN)
