Inmate escapes San Remigio jail
CEBU, Philippines - A detainee of the San Remigio Police Station escaped by destroying the iron bar of the plywood ceiling of the stockade Tuesday dawn in Barangay Poblacion, San Remigio.
Police are now on a hunt to recapture Nonilon “Binong” Magallanes, 30, of Masbate, who is facing a case in court for robbery with homicide.
Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador ordered to continue the hot pursuit operation to arrest Magallanes. However, Comendador said an investigation will be made against team leader SPO1 Nicolas Navales and incoming jailer, PO3 Ricardo Ancajas.
“If there are lapses on the part of those concerned personnel, appropriate charges will be imposed,” Comendador said.
Insp. Anecito Manloloyo, San Remigio police chief, told The FREEMAN that Magallanes was still in the stockade when Navales conducted an inspection at 8:00p.m. last Monday until 1:00a.m. on Tuesday.
Navales, who was in a hurry to attend a Clean and Green program in Barangay Hagnaya, no longer made an inspection and left the station at 7:30a.m. It was Ancajas who discovered the incident at 8:00a.m.
Manloloyo said they could not determine what Magallanes used to cut the iron bars in the ceiling.
Magallanes was arrested November 30 last year in Sitio Patag, Barangay Argawanon. His arrest was by virtue of an arrest warrant for robbery with homicide signed by Executive Judge Henry Basilia of Regional Trial Court Branch 49 in Cataingan, Masbate.
Manloloyo said some of his men are now securing the barangays of Maya and Tapilon in Daanbantayan where Magallanes is expected to board a motorized banca heading back to Masbate. — (FREEMAN)
