Two men kill Tau Gamma member
CEBU, Philippines - Two men shot and killed a member of a Tau Gamma Phi fraternity while the victim was drinking at a store in Barangay Cansaga, Consolacion town, early morning yesterday.
Police, however, have yet to determine if the motive of the killing is fraternity rivalry.
Gabriel Joshua Jumao-as, 43, of Barangay Nangka, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body after he was repeatedly shot by the assailants who arrived onboard a motorcycle.
Jumao-as was rushed to the Eversley Child’s Sanitarium in Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City, but he was declared dead on arrival.
Prior to the incident, Jumao-as was reportedly drinking with a friend when his neighbor, Anthony Tejero, 27 an inactive member of another fraternity called the Alpha Kappa Rho, arrived and joined them for a while before leaving.
A few minutes later, three men on board a motorcycle stopped just a few meters away from the group and the passenger disembarked and shot at Jumao-as. The victim was hit in the chest, abdomen, back, right leg and right arm.
PO2 Jhonaskie Romero, responding officer, said the driver was also armed with a gun and threatened those who tried to help Jumao-as.
“Hasta gani kuno ang usa ka sakay nibunot pud kuno ug armas,” Romero said in a phone interview.
Eight empty shells of a .45 cal. pistol were recovered from the crime scene.
Romero said that the family of Jumao-as reportedly blamed Tejero for the incident.
Both fraternities have a history of rivalry and violence that has resulted in several deaths on both sides.
Romero added that they have yet to conduct a background check on Jumao-as to determine the real motive of the crime. They will also question the companions of Jumao-as during the incident. (FREEMAN)
