Dean accused of molesting student was an outstanding university exec
CEBU, Philippines - The dean of a state-run university in Cebu City who was accused of molesting a 16-year-old engineering student inside a motel room in Mandaue City is said to be an outstanding engineer and has a commendable track record and is even considered as one of the possible candidates for president of the university.
Dean Cornelio Duazo’s promising career however doomed as he was accused of student’s molestation last week. Cebu Technological University (CTU) Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI) chairman Jerry Letrondo said that Duazo was an outstanding school official.
He was recently awarded by the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) as the 2012 Outstanding Engineer in the Field of Education. He started working with CTU as an ordinary instructor and rose from the rank.
Within the few years that he supervised the College of Mechanical Engineering, the school was able to produce several topnotchers. Duazo has also authored several engineering books. He is a reviewer for the mechanical engineering board examination, and possesses two doctoral degrees; PhD in Technology Management and Doctor of Developmental Education.
In spite of what he has already achieved, Duazo continues his quest for knowledge in the field of law by enrolling in the college of law in one of the universities in Cebu where he is currently a third year law student.
But because of the complaint, Duazo was forced to abandon his dream of becoming the CTU president in the future. He tendered his resignation last Monday a day before a formal complaint for acts of lasciviousness was filed against him before the Mandaue City Prosecutor’s Office.
Letrondo said the university has also started an administrative investigation against him but because of his resignation it will be terminated.
In fact, Letrondo said prior to Duazo’s resignation the school administration has already decided to relieve him as dean.
Letrondo said that Duazo has denied the complaint but admitted having brought the complainant in a motel. According to Letrondo, Duazo explained that he only wanted to treat the student. It was not clear however why would he treat the student in a motel room. (FREEMAN)
