Suspect in two San Remigio killings arrested
CEBU, Philippines - Police have arrested the man who reportedly shot two men dead and injured two others in Barangay Victoria, San Remegio last Wednesday evening.
Inspector Anecito Manloloyo, San Remigio chief, said at least three witnesses identified 50-year-old Jose Rossel as the one who killed Teodoro Remando, 53, and Rolando Dacayana, 49 last Monday night.
Rossel was arrested in his house in Barangay Bitoon, Daanbantayan, at past 8 pm last Wednesday where Dacayana once resided. The suspect did not resist arrest, Manloloyo said.
Based on their investigation, Manloloyo said the motive behind the attack is personal grudge.
The suspect reportedly accused Dacayana as the one who raped his daughter back when the latter was still minor.
The station chief said they were able to trace the suspect after conducting a background check on the victims.
“Naa’y mingtug-an nato na taga-Daanbantayan ni si Dacayana sa una ug duna siya’y criminal record so atong gipa-follow up sa Barangay Bitoon, (We received information that Dacayana is from Daanbantayan and that he has a criminal record so we followed it up in Barangay Bitoon.)” he said.
Manloloyo revealed their discovery that Dacayana’s brother, Gino, was charged and jailed for allegedly raping Rossel’s daughter, but Rossel kept blaming Rolando as the one who committed the crime.
A charge for double murder and frustrated murder will be filed against Rossel, who is now detained at the San Remegio detention cell.
In last Monday’s shooting incident, Remando succumbed to three gunshot wounds to the back while Rolando Dacayana succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head.
Teodor Remando Jr., 17, grandson of the older Remando, and Celadel Marianito, 32, the live-in partner of Dacayana, were wounded then and are now in stable condition. — (FREEMAN)
