P2.6M worth of marijuana burned
CEBU, Philippines - Some P2.6 million worth of marijuana stalks were destroyed yesterday at the headquarters of the Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) 7 in the town of Sibonga.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 director Jigger Montallana, Battalion Acting Commander Leopoldo Cabanag, First District Rep. Eduardo Gullas and his grandson Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas led the ceremonial burning of the 21,000 stalks of marijuana.
Insp. Janus Giangan, information officer of RPSB, said the thousands of marijuana burned yesterday morning were uprooted in Barangay Patong, Badian town in an operation last July.
During that operation, Barangay Councilor Domingo Amorado Besin was arrested as the police allegedly caught him attending to the marijuana plants.
Rep. Gullas, in an interview with reporters, said they are aiming for a total elimination of illegal drugs in Cebu, particularly in his district.
Gullas also assured to assist PDEA in its efforts to fight drugs.
Montallana, in a separate interview, said they need another vehicle that they can use in their operations. — (FREEMAN)
