Man who shot aunt surrenders to cops

- Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - The son of the San Remigio police chief, who shot his aunt in Barangay Salag, Tabogon, last Saturday, voluntarily surrendered to the San Remigio Police Station yesterday around 4 a.m.

William Manloloyo, 30, accompanied by his live-in partner, surrendered after he was convinced by his father, Insp. Anecito Manloloyo, not to run away from the law.

William who is now detained at the stockade of the police station will be turned over to the Tabogon Police Station today.

Anecito told The FREEMAN that upon knowing what happened he immediately called the cellular phone of William and encouraged him to submit himself to the authorities.

“Lain man gud kaayo paminawon ba nga OIC (officer-in-charge) ko sa San Remigio unya akong anak nakapusil unya wala mo-surrender,” Anecito said.

Anecito explained that William did not have any plan to elude the arrest but he was just cooling himself down after he shot his aunt, Luzminda Monares, 46, who was hit in the left eyebrow.

“Diha man gud iyang live-in pagpusil unya nakalitan maong iya unang gipakalma pero wa siya’y plano nga muikyas,” Anecito said.

He added that Monares, who is confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City, is already out of danger based on information he received from his wife.

“Nangutana ko sa doctor kung kinahanglanon pa ba nga i-CT scan pero okay na man kuno no need na,” Anecito said adding that they also paid Monares’ bills.

William allegedly shot Monares following an argument about their ancestral house where William and his live-in partner are currently living in.

Monares used to live in the house as the youngest of three siblings. William’s mother is the eldest.

When Monares left for Malaysia where she worked as a domestic helper William reportedly decided to temporarily stay in the house with his live-in partner.

But when Monares arrived a couple of week ago, she insisted on living in the house. This started the argument that resulted to the shooting incident.

Inspector Lamberto Hibaya, chief of the Tabogon Police Station, said appropriate charges are being prepared against William.    - THE FREEMAN
