Minor attacks his father for pushing his brother

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - A 17-year-old boy and his 18-year-old uncle fled after mauling and stabbing the boy’s father at Noli Me Tangere St., Barangay Ermita, last Monday night.

The boy stabbed his father after seeing him hurting his 19-year-old brother.

According to the investigation of the police, the 19-year-old and his father quarreled after the father came home drunk past 10 p.m. Then the father pushed the 19-year-old away too hard he fell to the ground.

The boy and his uncle saw what happened and came to the rescue of the 19-year-old.

The uncle struck the father in the head with an empty bottle while the boy stabbed his father twice using a kitchen knife before they fled.

It was the 19-year-old who took his father to the Cebu City Medical Center.

The father suffered two stab wounds in the back and a cut in his left eyebrow caused by the broken bottle.

Homicide Section chief Jul Mohammad Jamiri said that the victim, a meat shop worker, often came home drunk.

“Sige daw na ug kahubog. Siguro wala na kaantos ang mga anak sa kalagot na sige na lang kahubog,” Jamiri said.

Police are now looking for the suspects.

Jamiri said they can opt to file a case against the minor, but believes that the case will be amicably settled since it is just a family problem.

Meanwhile, a laborer was shot in the head by an unidentified man inside a videoke bar in Barangay Kamagayan early yesterday morning.

Antonio Villacorta, alias Tony, 47, is now in critical condition after the assailant shot him in the right temple.

Villacorta was in Loly’s videoke house at 5:30 a.m. yesterday together with friends Joel Bacus, 45; and Dennis Royus, 46, when the shooting happened. The three are residents of C. Padilla St., Barangay Sawang Calero.

Villacorta was singing when the assailant went inside the videoke house and suddenly shot him in the head.

The victim was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center. The assailant was able to escape.

Jamiri said they do not have any motive yet behind the incident, aside from the possibility that the victim was only a random victim of thrillseekers.    - THE FREEMAN
