CEBU, Philippines - Eleven provincial police personnel and four police stations were given various awards during the Police Olympics 2012 awarding ceremony yesterday morning at the Cebu Provincial Police Office grounds (CPPO).

The awarding was in line with the 111th Police Service Anniversary. It was also a unified celebration of the CPPO’s 33rd founding anniversary and of being awarded as the Best Performing Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group nationwide by Camp Crame.

CPPO Director Patrocinio Comendador said the celebration was to honor the great men and women for shaping up the image of the provincial headquarters.

Among the awardees were SPO1 Reynaldo Solante and PO1 Danny Camero for having the Most Number of Arrests while Best in Tamang Bihis was SPO3 Reynaldo Rosaceña, of Bogo City Police Station.

Winners of the Affidavit Writing Contest were SPO4 Daniel Tarucan, PO3 Nonita Baroman, and PO2 Jennyfil Canal. Champions of the Proficiency Firing were Sr. Insp. Wilbert Parrilla and SPO3 Vincent Canama. First over-all champion of the first elimination round of the proficiency firing was Supt. Henry Biñas.

Best Tourist Police was PO2 Erwin Illut while the Best in Handcuffing Technique was SPO1 Reynaldo Layese.

For the police stations, Best in Checkpoint Operation was the Minglanilla Police Station and Best Patrol Car was the Tabuelan Police Station. For the Sports Festival Champion, the Provincial Police Safety Company won the basketball tournament and the police station of the 1st District won the volleyball tournament.

The Police Olympics honed the knowledge and skills of the police personnel in the field of administrative and operational readiness.

Comendador said the Olympics will show the sportsmanship of the policemen as well as to motivate them to do their best as public servants.

As part of the ceremony, six sacks of digital compact discs (DVDs) and seven video karrera machines were destroyed and thousands of marijuana plants were burned.

The CPPO was recently awarded as the Best Performing Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group by the Camp Crame nationwide.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, one of the guests in the ceremony, said the achievement of the CPPO showed that the Provincial Government could work together with the PNP.

“They can always count on our support. The Province never turned down any request as long as it is involving the operational efficiency and greatly enhance the efforts in keeping the province safe and secure,” Garcia said.

Garcia added that the support given by the Provincial Government could boost the morale of the policemen in performing their duties, knowing that they are being supported.      - THE FREEMAN
