Police set to file charges vs. man who hacked, robbed girlfriend
CEBU, Philippines - Police will file charges for robbery with frustrated homicide tomorrow against the boyfriend of a government employee who hacked and robbed her during their date in Barangay Busay last Friday.
PO2 Alan Caumeran of the Motorcycle Response Unit said they waited for Marlon Rey Elbanbueña, 30, to surrender until 5pm yesterday, but he failed to show up, prompting them to pursue the filing of appropriate charges tomorrow.
The 36-year-old victim, who works at the Land Transportation Office, is also determined to file charges, Caumeran said.
Since last Friday’s incident, Caumeran said they got in contact with Elbanbueña who has since assured the police that he would eventually surrender after hopefully settling the matter with his girlfriend.
“Iyang last text karon (yesterday) is at 11 am. Ingon siya makigkita ra siya namo ug dalhon sad niya ang bag. Until 5 pm today, if di gihapon siya mosurrender, file-an na nato siya, (His last text was at 11 am. He said he will meet us and bring the bag. We’re giving him until 5pm to surrender or we will file charges.)” Caumeran said.
At 7 pm, Caumeran told The FREEMAN that the suspect did not surrender.
Caumeran said they are also set to arrest the suspect as they deployed assets to monitor him in his possible hide-outs.
Last Saturday, after the incident, Caumeran said they got in contact with Elbanbueña, who told them that he will surrender after work.
Police learned that the suspect, a resident of La Paloma Subdivision, Barangay Tisa, worked as an intern in an auto shop. He failed to show up then.
The victim accused Elbanbueña of punching her in the face and body before hacking her.
The suspect then stripped the victim of her underwear before speeding off with her bag.
The bag reportedly contained P16,000 cash, an iPhone worth P36,000, another cell phone worth P4,000, a ring and a pair of earrings worth P15,000 and P28,000, respectively.
The victim was treated at the Cebu City Medical Center of the superficial hack wounds she sustained on the left side of her neck and on her wrist. She is now in a stable condition. (FREEMAN)
