Man hacks wife, lover

- Darrel Carumba - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - A 29-year-old woman and her lover were both injured when they were hacked by her husband who caught them naked in bed inside their house in barangay Tuyan, Naga City, yesterday past midnight.

The lover is reportedly a neighbor of the couple, whose names are withheld to protect their children.

The 37-year-old suspect works in one of the private hospitals in Cebu City.

PO1 Silvano Bascones of Naga City Police said that based on their initial investigation, the suspect alleged he arrived home late that night, he proceeded to their room but upon opening the door, he was surprised to see his wife together with her lover lying in bed both naked, hugging and kissing each other.

The husband got angry and shouted, disrupting the lovers. The husband then got a bolo from the kitchen and hacked his wife and her lover.

The lover managed to escape after getting hit by the bolo. He was injured in the back while the suspect’s wife was injured on the right arm.

The incident woke the couple’s two children aged 9 and 8, who were sleeping in the other room of the house.

The commotion prompted the neighbors to intervene and helped rush the victim to the South General Hospital while the suspect voluntarily surrendered to the responding policemen.

He is now detained pending the filing of charges.

PO1 Basconis added that yesterday, the victim reportedly escaped from the hospital when his fellow police officers visited her to get details regarding the incident.

Basconis said they heard reports that the suspect’s wife may have run away with her lover.

The couple allegedly got married last October 2009 during a mass wedding in Naga City officiated by the local government but the suspect cannot remember the specific date when asked by the police.  (FREEMAN)
