Two dead in separate incidents
CEBU, Philippines - Two persons were shot dead in separate shooting incidents in the cities of Carcar and Bogo yesterday morning.
A 33-year-old man died after he was shot dead by two unidentified men while walking on his way home in Upper Dapdap, Barangay Poblacion III, Carcar City, around 6:00 in the evening last Tuesday.
Rutchel Cabaluna, died of multiple gunshot wounds to the face and head. He was rushed to the Carcar Provincial Hospital but the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.
Cabaluna reportedly came from the house of his neighbor, a few meters away from his residence, when he was shot by a gunman who was allegedly waiting for him at a grassy area of the said place.
Police recovered six empty shells of a .9mm caliber pistol which was believed to have come from the firearm used by the gunman.
Police are now looking into Cabaluna’s conflict with his relative in the said place and the issue over his live-in partner’s former lover.
SPO3 Jorame Tanudtanud, homicide investigator, suspected that the gunman had a personal grudge with Cabaluna.
“Mostly sa nawong iyang igo klaro nga patay gyud ang tuyo,(Most of his wounds were in the face which clearly shows that the gunman wanted him dead.)” Tanudtanud said in a phone interview.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old coconut juice vendor was shot dead in broad daylight while attending to his cart in Barangay Poblacion, Bogo City, around 11:00 in the morning yesterday.
Warren Brignas, a native of Barangay Guadalupe, and temporarily living in Barangay Sto. Rosario, was rushed to the Bogo Provincial Hospital due to a gunshot wound to his head but he did not get to the hospital alive.
Witnesses only described the lone gunman to be wearing a black jacket and bonnet. The gunman was reportedly onboard a motorcycle without a plate number.
PO3 Allan Dosdos, homicide investigator, said Brignas was selling coconut juice along the road when the gunman suddenly appeared before the victim and shot him once hitting him in the head.
“Plantsado kaayo ang pagpusil kay bisan sa kahayag way kukahadlok nga nipusil,(The shooting was well executed because even in broad daylight, the gunman was not afraid.)” Dosdos said in a phone interview.
Police are checking the background of Brignas to determine if he was involved in some trouble or if somebody had a grudge on him.
Dosdos even advised the family to cooperate and reveal whatever suspicious events they noticed a few days before the shooting happened. - THE FREEMAN
