Vandals alarm Malapascua resort owners
CEBU, Philippines - Vandalism has caused alarm to some resort owners in Malapascua Island in Daanbantayan, Cebu.
Dioscora Wieland of Aabana Beach and Watersport Resort Malapascua reported vandals damaged their pumpboat by putting holes in the hull.
Wieland is offering a P10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the vandals.
Wieland reported that four holes were found on the starboard, just above the waterline parallel to the engine.
The three look like screwdriver holes and the fourth is bigger, approximately 5x5 centimeters.
Weiland had to spend around P100,000 to repair the damage.
“I’m more than happy to pay P10,000 to see somebody arrested,” Wieland told The FREEMAN.
She said that there is no doubt that it intentionally done to sabotage their business.
“It’s ridiculous, pointless vandalism, and it damages also the reputation of Malapascua as an honest, safe and reliable area for tourists and divers,” Wieland said.
Wieland said this is the first incident of vandalism in her the more than twelve years as resort owner.
She is asking informants to report any information about the vandals to the local police and to Logon (Malapascua Island) Barangay Captain Rex Novabos or directly to the resort. — (FREEMAN)
