Househelp steals over P250T worthof assorted jewelry from employer
CEBU, Philippines - A newly hired housemaid only needed one hour to steal close to P300,000 worth of jewelry from her employer in Barangay Basak.
Genesis Dacua, 28, reported to the police that his helper disappeared on Wednesday, an hour after she got hired. Also disappeared together with the helper were assorted pieces of jewelry worth P250,000 and a diamond ring worth P35,000.
Dacua said a certain Lily Luyas, 28, of Bayawan, Negros Occidental applied to them as housemaid Wednesday morning. The suspect allegedly approached Dacua’s neighbor Rochelle Grace Ann Taup and told that latter that she came all the way from Negros Occidental and that she is looking for job in Cebu.
Luyas allegedly asked Taup if she could help her look for a job. Taup recommended the suspect to the Dacuas who was looking for a housemaid.
The suspect was hired on the spot and immediately started working with the Dacuas at 9:00 in the morning. But Dacua noticed that the suspect disappeared an hour after.
They were not suspicious at first because Luyas’ bag was still there. However, they later found that the pieces of jewelry inside the room were already missing.
Police Officer 1 Ramil Duyag of the Theft and Robbery Section of the Cebu City Police Office has warned would be employers to be vigilant in hiring housemaid.
Duyag said that Dacua is the third victim of Luyas already. There were already previous complaints received by the TRS and found out that she was the same suspect. - THE FREEMAN
