CG allows vessels to sail

- Marigold Lebumfacil - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Coast Guard yesterday gave clearance to all vessels to sail to any part of Bohol and Cebu.

“All vessels, whether fast craft or conventional, regardless of tonnage are already granted clearance to depart or sail going to any part of Bohol and Cebu as of 9:00 am today (yesterday),” Punzalan said in a text message.

Last Tuesday, M/V Fast Craft 2 of the Aznar Shipping company, the former Supercat 30 and Ocean Jet 8 cancelled trips because of bad weather.

Punzalan said they are after the safety and convenience of the passengers.

Earlier, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama ordered the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to be on alert for typhoon Helen even if it only threatens Luzon because it might change course and effect Cebu and the rest of the Visayas.

The rains might also cause flooding, landslides and other disasters. Several streets in Cebu City are always flooded during heavy rains.

Uphill areas also experience landslides during incessant rain.

Rama said his administration is serious in evacuating residents or removing them from danger areas like the riverbanks and landslide-prone areas to prevent loss of lives during calamities. — (FREEMAN)
