Luigi vs. Neri for 2013?
CEBU, Philippines - Sixth district representative Luis Gabriel Quisumbing is ready to face-off with former sixth district Representative Nerissa Soon Ruiz who is rumored to run against him in the upcoming elections.
Quisumbing told reporters yesterday that should Soon-Ruiz run against him in the upcoming elections, he is prepared to present the progress and development in his district the past three years of being its representative.
He said his track record would show the endless delivery of basic services and infrastructure projects that he has done to the district. Soon-Ruiz is rumored to be running for Representative in the sixth district after meeting with 3rd district representative Pablo John Garcia, who is eyeing a gubernatorial seat under the One Cebu Party.
She is also reportedly being eyed as partner of former provincial board member Victor Maambong for the two seats in the PB for the 6th district under One Cebu.
To recall, Quisumbing lost the congressional elections to Soon-Ruiz in 2007. In 2010, Quisumbing ran under the One Cebu party and won but Ruiz at that time, bowed out of the congressional race after her term ended and ran for mayor instead. She was defeated by Mayor Jonas Cortes, whom she now serves as consultant.
In a recent interview with the former legislator, she said that she still has to weigh whether or not to run again but has declared that she will be supporting PJ Garcia for governor.
Meanwhile, Quisumbing assured barangay officials and different groups in Mandaue City and Consolacion that livelihood program will continue.
Quisumbing said that when he assumed office in 2010, unemployment was one of the problems in his district based on the number of those who visited his office asking for recommendations and referrals for work here and abroad.
He said his office has initiated a program to provide trainings especially for women.
