MCC tells court: PRC defies writ

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City College has manifested before the Regional Trial Court in Quezon City the alleged contemptuous act committed by the Professional Regulation Commission in defying a lawful order from the court.

 The MCC represented by Dr. Paulus Mariae Cañete informed RTC Branch 76 Judge Alexander Balut in Quezon City that his writ of preliminary injunction was “blatantly” ignored by the PRC in refusing to allow its graduates from taking the Licensure Examination for Teachers.

On June 29, Balut issued a writ of preliminary injunction against the Commission on Higher Education directing the latter to cease and desist from taking further actions vis-à-vis the closure order issued against the MCC.

MCC lawyer Alfredo Sipalay said that despite the order from the court their graduates were barred by PRC from taking the board exams. He added that the Department of Education likewise refused to credit MCC’s postgraduate program.

Sipalay said the MCC has properly informed the PRC about the writ of preliminary injunction through a letter dated July 2. However, the PRC through lawyer Dan Maglayang asked the MCC to settle the issue with the CHED since it was the latter that declared its program illegal.

“All issues pertaining to your school (MCC) should be addressed by CHED since it was the latter that made the publication declaring your school as illegally operating Board programs,” Sipalay quoted Maglayang’s letter in their manifestation before the court. (FREEMAN)
