Kusug still undecided on who to support

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Leaders of the opposition party Kugi Uswag Sugbo (Kusug) is still consulting their members down to the sitio level before announcing who they will support this coming election.

The party is yet to come with a group decision, eventhough several members of Kusug are already with Team Rama as candidates for 2013. These include Mary Ann de los Santos who is leading Kusug in the North and Sambag I Captain Jerry Guardo, among others.

Last Tuesday, about 40 Kusug members from different barangays met at La Fortuna Bakery and invited Rama as guest to express their support to the Mayor.

But Raymond Garcia, son of former mayor and founder of Kusug Alvin Garcia, said those who met with the mayor are Kusug members who have always been “sympathetic” of Rama.

The meeting was not called by his father nor the other leaders, Raymund said.

He said the expressed support of those who attended the Tuesday assembly does not reflect the position of the whole group.

“We are still consulting our other members. Until now, we have not decided who to support next year,” Raymond said.

The Kusug members who met last Tuesday also promised, Raymond said, that whatever the group will decide later on will be respected.

In earlier interviews, Alvin Garcia already said that Kusug is likely to support Team Rama in the next election.

But rumors also surfaced that the Garcia family is open to a reconciliation with the Osmeña’s, the leader of the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK).

Early this week, Kusug members met and decided to reorganize. No word yet from Kusug leaders if they will have a candidate for the coming election considering some of their members are already absorbed by Team Rama.  (FREEMAN)
