Collector robbed, bank burglarized

CEBU, Philippines - A lending collector lost more than P30,000 worth of valuables and cash after he was robbed by two unidentified men last Tuesday afternoon in Barangay Caliongan, Dalaguete.

Jerwin Baoy, 27, of Barangay Canbanwa, Argao, and a collector of the Rafi Finance Corporation, was rushed to the hospital after he was struck by one of the suspects using a piece of wood.

Baoy failed to recognize the robbers who were wearing bonnets and one of them was armed with a .45 caliber pistol.

Police said Baoy was onboard his Honda XRM motorcycle heading towards Barangay Jolomaynon from Barangay Caliongan when the incident happened.

As Baoy reached the curved portion of the road near the Caliongan National High School, the two robbers waylaid him. One was armed with a 2x2 piece of wood and another with a pistol.

One of the robbers aimed his pistol at Baoy who had no choice but to stop his motorcycle.

The robber, who was armed with a piece of wood, suddenly struck Baoy in the head causing him to fall to the ground as robbers forcibly opened the U-box of his motorcycle, took the cash and his cellular phone.

Suspects fled right after the incident.

Motorcycle-for-hire drivers rushed Baoy to the Julio Cardinal Rosales Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a bank in Barangay Dawis Norte, Carmen was burglarized by unidentified men around 8:00a.m. that same day.

Burglars allegedly took the P9,280 cash of one of the employees of the Bangko Katipunan Foundation Incorporated and a 9mm pistol of Reynaldo Capul, the bank’s security guard.

The cash and gun were reportedly placed inside the drawer of the owners.

The bank’s account officer, Ryan Anthony Arbutante, 26, who lives in the said barangay, and loan assistant Jake Cardosa, 23, of Holy Family Village, Barangay Banilad, Mandaue City, reported to the police that they discovered the burglary at about 7:00a.m.

Chief Insp. Jason Mangaron, Carmen police chief, said there was no sign of forced entry at the scene.

Mangaron said they are still investigating the case to determine if the incident was an inside job and to identify the person responsible.  — (FREEMAN)
