CEBU, Philippines - For defending his sister from jokes, a 29-year-old man died after he was stabbed by his friend while they were having a drinking session Tuesday evening in Sitio Dapdap, Barangay Catarman, Liloan.
Virgilio Abinasa, a resident of the said place, was stabbed in the chest with a knife by Marlon Brigoli, of Barangay Tayud, Consolacion.
Abinasa was rushed to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City but the attending physician declared him dead a few minutes later.
Prior to the incident, Abinasa and Brigoli were having a drinking session when the victim’s sister arrived. Brigoli reportedly started saying naughty jokes at the sister which annoyed Abinasa.
Chief Insp. Richard Oliver, Liloan police chief, said Abinasa tried to stop Brigoli but the latter did not listen.
“Gibastos man sa suspect ingnon nga naa nay nahitabo nila (sister) gibadlong siya sa maguwang nga ayaw ana pero wa man gihapon patuo. (Abinasa felt insulted when Brigoli said that something happened between him and Abinasa’s sister. Abinasa tried to stop him but he did not listen),” Oliver said in a phone interview.
A heated altercation ensued between the two. Brigoli took a knife and stabbed Abinasa once.
Oliver said that though Abinasa and Brigoli were friends, the incident triggered their old personal grudges.
Oliver added they are conducting a manhunt operation to arrest Brigoli and to file a case against him. — (FREEMAN)
