Carpenter hangs self

CEBU, Philippines - A carpenter has committed suicide a day after his family celebrated the birthday of his youngest son in Barangay Bulacao.

Leonidez Padigos, 52, was found hanging yesterday morning with a nylon rope tied around his neck. Barangay councilman Nicasio Abendan said the family had a celebration the night before because of the birthday of Padigos’ youngest son.

In fact, Padigos had a drinking session with his children during the celebration.

Abendan said there have been several attempts in the past by Padigos to commit suicide, especially if he gets drunk, but were prevented by the members of his family.

Abendan said the members of the family told him that they are worried every time Padigos is drunk because he would attempt to kill himself. In fact, after the celebration they were allegedly constantly checking on Padigos while asleep.

He was first checked by his son at around 1 a.m. and he was seen sleeping beside his grandson. The second time he was checked was at 4:00 a.m. and he was already found hanging.

It was not immediately known what could have prompted Padigos to commit suicide.  (FREEMAN)
