Horizons 101 units selling well

CEBU, Philippines - About 72 percent of the units of the Horizons 101, the tallest residential building soon to rise in Cebu City, are already pre-sold despite a slight blow on the project following the collapse of its temporary retaining wall almost three months ago.

The developer, Taft Property Ventures Development Corporation (TPVDC), finished all repairs and yesterday formally signed a contract with the general contractor to mark the start of the actual building construction.

The project will be undertaken by DDT Konstract Inc., one of the reputable contractors in the country, said TPVDC Communications Consultant Cerwin Eviota.

DDT Konstract Inc. President and Chairman Danilo D. Tamayo committed to turn over the project on time and in good quality.

TPVDC Chief Operating Officer Manuel Colayco said that project is targeted for completion by the first quarter of 2015.

He said everything will finish on schedule despite the almost three months delay in the project.

The delay was caused by the unexpected collapse of the temporary retaining wall at the project site during the excavation phase.

Immediately after the collapse, the developer implemented a 60-day restoration program to do repairs in the wall and the residential houses that were affected and damaged from the incident.

The repairs finished ahead of schedule prompting the Office of the Building Official of the Cebu City Government to lift the suspension of the project. The OBO lifted the cease and desist order early this month.

The actual construction will start shortly.

Tamayo said that they will apply the pre-cast reinforced concrete external walls, a trending technology for high-rise residential buildings especially near bodies of water.

He said the technology will make sure that no water will seep into the building. The pre-cast external walls will be applied from fifteenth floor down. This technology is being used for more than five years now. He said it is designed for residential buildings to add more strength to the structure.

The project plan includes a drainage system to make sure that water from a natural drainage and from the residential area nearby will be properly channeled.

Tamayo said they have applied the technology to other projects they are handling in Cebu and Manila like the Marco Polo residences in Cebu City and the Robinsons residential buildings in Manila.

Some of the projects of DDT Konstract here are the Mormon Temple in Lahug, the Lexmark Tower and the E-block in I.T. Park. DDT Konstract has been doing business in Cebu for 10 years.

The Horizons 101 consists of two buildings. The first tower will consist of 56 floors to house 900 units. The other tower will consist of 45 floors to house about 700 units.

Only the construction of first tower will commence. Colayco said there is no schedule yet for the second tower but it will be launched before the year-end.  (FREEMAN)
