'GF slasher' posts bail

 CEBU, Philippines - The 17-year-old boy who was accused of slashing his girlfriend’s neck has been released from detention after posting the recommended P12,000 bail for his temporary liberty.

The minor posted bail in cash yesterday with his counsel Rowell Juban.

Prosecutor Marlon Atillo earlier elevated the criminal case for frustrated homicide against the accused who opted not to file a counter-affidavit to negate the allegations against him.

The accused, a resident of Sitio Kantibhang, Lower Pakigne, Minglanilla, voluntarily surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-7 on July 22, 2012 citing security reasons.

Earlier, Juban said that for security reasons, they prefer that the minor be detained inside the Operation Second Chance, a jail facility for the minor offenders in barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.

“Walay mga text pero naay mga nadunggan namo (We did not receive text messages but we heard rumors),” Juban said referring to threats they heard after inquest proceedings were conducted before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

The accused did not deny the commission of the crime and even executed an extra-judicial confession.

“I confessed to have committed the offense,” the extra-judicial confession reads.

He claimed he accidentally “stabbed” the neck of his 21-year-old girlfriend, Mariel Marie Abad, inside his room after an argument on July 20, 2012.

Based on the verification in the hospital, NBI agent lawyer Reynan Oliva said the victim was slashed and not stabbed.

The minor remained mum on the reason behind the argument.

But in her handwritten statement submitted to the prosecutor’s office, Abad said they did not argue. “Wala man jud mi nag-away. Nikalit ra jud. Di lagi kadawat nga gibuwagan mao siguro patyon ko niya. (We did not fight. He just suddenly attacked me. May be he can’t accept my breaking up with him that’s why he wanted to kill me.)” Abad’s statement read.

“Makahilak man gud ko maghuna-huna giunsa ko niya pagdunggab. Mura jud siya’g walay kaluoy nako. Pagdunggab pa jud nako, sige siya’g ingon ‘di na jud diay ko nimo love ha’. Salbahis kaayo og nawong! (I cry every time I think of how he stabbed me. He seemed merciless. When he stabbed me he kept saying ‘You really don’t love me anymore.’ He looked so cruel.)” (FREEMAN)
