Shooting kills 1, injures 2 in Medellin

CEBU, Philippines - One person died and two others were injured including a barangay councilman during a shooting incident in Sitio Navara, Barangay Canhabagat, Medellin Monday afternoon.

Feljun Arrabis, 27, of Barangay Taytay, Daanbantayan died on the spot because of two gunshot wounds. His cousin, Alvic Inot, councilman of Barangay Pajo, Daanbantayan, and George Camay, 29, of Caputatan Sur, Medellin were also injured.

Inot sustained gunshot wound in his right leg while Camay was wounded at the back portion of his body.

The victims came from the house of a suspected drug pusher and were already heading home at 3:40 p.m. when two unidentified gunmen shot them without any provocation.

Arrabis succumbed to two gunshot wounds in the back and died on the spot while Inot and Camay were rushed to Bogo District Hospital. The police recovered eight empty shells for caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene.

The police are looking at the possibility that the crime has something to do with the illegal drug trade. SPO4 Carlos Condino, Medellin police chief, said the owner of the house where the victims came from is a known drug pusher in the town.

In fact, he was previously arrested for illegal drugs by the Regional Intelligence Division few years ago. — (FREEMAN)
