CEBU, Philippines - The newly installed acting personnel chief of the Cebu City Hall yesterday warned inept and lazy employees to reform otherwise they will face termination.
Lawyer Evangeline Abatayo, who has been chosen as one of the city’s outstanding department heads during this year’s Charter Day anniversary, was appointed by Mayor Michael Rama as acting human resource department head effective last Monday to discipline erring employees.
After her assumption into office Abatayo immediately called her office staff to a meeting and told them to behave.
Abatayo told her staff to serve as an example to the more than 5,000 City Hall employees. Abatayo said she received reports that some of the personnel assigned at the HRDO come to office already late while others go out gallivanting.
Rama said he needs a lawyer to run the office who knows the legalities if there is a need to terminate erring employees.
Abatayo replaced Jovy Morelos who was designated as administrative in-charge at the City Accounting Department. Abatayo also serves as concurrent city civil registrar.
Morelos will work with acting city accountant Diwa Cuevas who will concentrate on operational matters to speed up the processing of documents in the office. (FREEMAN)
