P1 fare difference kills man
CEBU, Philippines - A tricycle driver met his untimely death when he demanded an additional P1 fare from his passenger the other night.
The incident happened in C. Padilla Street in Barangay San Nicolas.
Investigation revealed that the driver, Diosdado Escultor, 30, ferried the suspect, Allan Saldua, to a nearby bakeshop around 11pm. When they arrived at the bakeshop, Escultor reportedly complained because Saldua only gave him P9 for fare, which was reportedly short of P1.
Saldua reportedly got angry and a heated argument ensued between the two. Saldua reportedly almost threw his coins at Escultor, but a certain “Jojo” intervened.
When Escultor was about to drive away with another passenger, Saldua pulled out a bladed weapon and stabbed him on the back.
Saldua immediately fled and Escultor died on the spot. A manhunt operation is underway for Saldua’s arrest.
Shooting
Meanwhile, the sister of the tricycle driver who was shot by a security guard at the compound of the former Gaisano Capital South is bent on filing charges against the guard today.
The sister of Rodrigo Fernandez went to the Cebu City Police Office yesterday morning and told authorities that the family is bent on filing a homicide case against Marjon Quimco Manriquez, 25, a resident of Minglanilla town and connected with St. Michael Security Agency.
Manriquez is currently detained at CPPO.
Investigation revealed that the victim, Rodrigo Teaño, and an unidentified companion entered the compound where the building of the former Gaisano Capital South used to stand around 7am last Sunday. Once inside, they reportedly went to different directions but Manriquez saw Teaño.
Manriquez asked Teaño to leave the site, but Teaño allegedly tried to stab the security guard with a knife. Manriquez pulled out his .45 caliber pistol, which Teaño allegedly tried to take away.
The two grappled for the gun until Manriquez pulled the trigger and hit Teaño on the chest and on the face. Teaño died on the spot.
Investigation report revealed that Manriquez shot Teaño in self-defense. (FREEMAN)
