CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Energy (DOE) turned over to Cebu Technological University a budget of 2.18 million for the establishment of an Affiliated Renewable Energy Center (AREC) in Central Visayas.
The program was part of DOE’s mandate to develop indigenous energy resources.
Ricardo dela Cruz, DOE senior science research specialist, handed over the check covering the amount to CTU President Bonifacio S. Villanueva during the briefing on the implementation of projects through AREC under a memorandum of agreement between the two government agencies.
One of the projects that will be implemented is the solar water pumping station in Maribojoc, Bohol.
The center’s office to be put up shortly inside the CTU-Main Campus at Corner M.J. Cuenco Avenue and R. Palma Street will house personnel tasked to carry out the projects.
“CTU-AREC is in a position to implement efficiently energy projects in Cebu with our more than ten campuses located strategically throughout the province,” said Villanueva.
Among those who attended the briefing include CTU Vice President for Research Dr. Cecilio Baga, vice president for finance Dr. Normita Mejala, university architect Rene Perez and DOE science research specialist Hidelita Villanueva. (FREEMAN)
