2 foreigners victimized by burglars
CEBU, Philippines - Two foreigners staying in Cebu City lost valuables to burglars recently.
In Sacred Heart Hills, Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City, a thief broke into the house where Australian Emma Joyce Raquel McPhee was staying yesterday.
McPhee, 67, discovered that the money that she put on a chair near her bed was missing when she got back at around 5:30 a.m.
Police said the robber or robbers stole US$200 and 500 Australian dollars, but they are wondering why other valuable items like McPhee’s wallet were not taken.
The son of McPhee’s friend who owns the house, who asked not to be named, was there when the theft allegedly happened, but said he did not notice anything amiss.
McPhee is planning to go back to Australia after this incident.
Meanwhile, a Korean also lost items to burglars in Barangay Busay, Cebu City, last Thursday.
Kim Jaehyun, 25, said he went to the Mactan Cebu International Airport to meet his mother.
When Kim returned to his hotel room at around 3 a.m. he discovered that some of his valuables were missing which prompted him to call hotel security.
Among these items were a HP Pavilion laptop worth P44,000, a Breitling wristwatch worth P11,000 as well as P20,000 in cash and 10,000 in Korean won.
Police suspect both thefts are inside jobs as there were no signs of forced entry.(FREEMAN)
