No Barangay Luz demolition today

CEBU, Philippines - Contrary to what has been claimed by the residents of Barangay Luz whose houses are subject of a pending demolition order, the court sheriff yesterday said that there is no scheduled demolition today.

Sheriff Joseph Olmedo said there is no truth to the letter sent by the residents of Sitios Lubi, Mabuhay and Nangka to Regional Trial Court Judge Ramon Daomilas that their houses will be demolished today.

“There’s no scheduled demolition yet, I don’t know where they get that,” Olmedo said.

He said it is him who will make the schedule should there be any demolition order in his branch to be implemented.

The occupants of the 29 houses subject of the pending demolition order have asked Daomilas to defer the demolition claiming that the relocation site prepared for them by the city government in Barangay Duljo-Fatima is not yet ready.

The affected families said they learned of the situation in the proposed relocation site after the members of the Cebu City Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) brought them in the area last June 28, 2012.

The affected families earlier filed a civil case for injunction and preliminary mandatory injunction against their respective homeowners association which were awarded the right of the properties they occupied.

But the case was dismissed for lack of merit. These affected families allegedly refused to be part of the homeowners. (FREEMAN)
