Trader, helper injured in Medellin shooting

CEBU, Philippines - A businessman and his 13-year-old helper were injured when they were shot yesterday afternoon in Barangay Kawit, Medellin town.

The victims were identified as Isidro Igot Rosales, 39, of Barangay Maharohay and owner of Pacifica Agrivet Supply in Kawit, and his helper, Benjie Martinez.

The other helper of the businessman was unhurt during the incident.

Witnesses said the gunman wore a helmet, an orange t-shirt and dark shorts.

PO3 Paquito Soon of Medellin Police Station said that Rosales and his two helpers were on board a motorcycle on their way to the store when they were followed by the gunman, who was riding a black and red scooter.

The assailant then opened fire four times, hitting Rosales in his abdomen and Martinez in his thigh.

The two victims were rushed to Verallo District Hospital in Bogo City and were later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.

Police said personal grudge may have been the motive behind the crime.  (FREEMAN)
