Part of P3.7 billion DPWH projects, Cebu flyovers given funding
CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways has earmarked a total of P3.7 billion for various infrastructure projects in Cebu.
Of the total amount, P1.9 billion have been spent on projects that have been completed or are ongoing while the remaining P1.8 billion include funds allocated for the controversial vehicle overpass projects (flyovers) in Cebu City.
As of May 31, DPWH-7 has completed 45 infrastructure projects, has 18 ongoing, and 13 that have not yet been started. Those are all for the year 2012.
Completed projects
Most of the completed projects are road concreting.
Projects completed under the Cebu City District Engineering Office are located at M. Cuenco Avenue, Mabini-Lopez Jaena St., Carlock St., Tupas St., 8th St., N. Bacalso Ave. (Cebu South),Gov. Cuenco Ave,C. Padilla St., and Cebu Circumferential Road (F. Llamas St).
Those projects completed under Cebu First Engineering District were the two road projects in Toledo-Tabuelan-San Remigio Road, two Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf road projects, three Antonio Y de Pio road projects, Daanbantayan Port and Olive Bridge construction.
Completed road projects under Cebu 2nd District Engineering District are the two in Cebu South Coastal Road and the two concrete road pavement of Sibonga-Dumanjug Road and two in N. Bacalso Ave (Cebu South Road).
Those completed under the Cebu 3rd Engineering District are Pinamungahan Cadre Road, Toledo-Pinamungahan-Aloguinsan-Mantalongon Road, Cebu-Toledo Wharf Road, Carcar-Barili Road and Toledo-Tabuelan-San Remegio road.
Completed under the Cebu 4th Engineering District are the three road projects in N. Bacalso Ave (Cebu South Road), four projects for Santander-Barili-Toledo Road,Dalaguete-Mantalongon Badian Road, Argao-Moalboal Road and Malhioa bridge.
Completed under the Cebu 5th Engineering Office are the two projects of Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf road in Daanbantayan.
The project completed by the Cebu 6th Engineering District is only Pajo-Basak Marigondon road in Lapu-Lapu City.
Ongoing projects
The retrofitting, rehabilitation and strengthening of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge is one of the most visible ongoing projects.
There are also the construction of the Guadalupe-Sapangdaku Bridge in Cebu City and Lower Pakigne Bridge in Minglanilla and the Anahaw Bridge.
Also ongoing are two projects of Toledo-Tabuelan-San Remegio road and three projects in Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf Road.
The construction of flyover at the junction of N. Bacalso Ave., C. Padilla St., Mambaling South Road, where one phase has been completed, is still an ongoing project.
Also in the list is the rehabilitation and improvement of Cebu South Coastal Road (tunnel).
The controversial widening of M. Velez St. from N.G. Escario St. to M. Velez Bridge is also on the list as well as the widening of the Naga to Carcar section of N. Bacalso Avenue.
The construction of the Carcar bypass road and road slip along Cebu Transcentral Highway are also on the list.
There are also road concreting projects on the Santander-Barili-Toledo Road; Toledo-Pinamungahan-Aloguinsan-Mantalongon Road and Sogod-Tabuelan Road.
Not yet started
The projects that are yet to be started include another flyover project in Mambaling, which will be only for one lane to cater to the left-turning north-bound vehicles at the South Road Properties.
The flyover at the junction of Gorordo Avenue and Salinas Drive, Lahug and the widening and construction of flyover at the junction of M.J. Cuenco Ave. and Gen. Maxilom Avenue to Juan Luna Ave. including drainage and right of way.
The construction of flyover at the junction of Gorordo Ave and Archbishop Reyes Ave. and construction of flyover/overpass at the junction of Gorordo Ave. and Doña Modesta Gaisano St.
The DPWH has shelved the planned construction of a flyover worth P18.8 million at Ouano Ave. to Plaridel St., in Mandaue City.
There are also road pavement projects that are set to be started aside from the rehabilitation of Mambaling road (four lanes) of the Cebu South Coastal Road, widening of Mactan Circumferential Road including bridge widening, and widening of Serging Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City.
Also on the drawing board is a bridge project in Sapangdaku, Cebu City.
