Rama to allies: Stay with Liberal

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - After two of his allies decided to join a political party other than the Liberal Party, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama told his supporters and other candidates in his slate to stay with LP as much as possible so as not to create confusion among their supporters.

Rama assured that even with the impending oath taking of former Congressman Antonio Cuenco and Councilor Jose Daluz III to the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), both will still run under his team.

Team Rama is more than willing to adopt Cuenco as its congressional candidate for the south district. Daluz will remain Team Rama’s general campaign manager.

“I cannot stop them with their plan. But what’s important is we have unity in the local level,” Rama said.

He is not, however, discounting the possibility of conflicts by having a candidate of another national party. Rama said his team will cross the bridge when they get there.

Rama appealed to the public to brush aside any speculation that he will leave LP for PDP-Laban.

“Nobody has asked me to leave, so why should I leave?” he said.

He said that he will always pledge support to the President, who leads the LP, because they share the same advocacy.

Cuenco is scheduled to take oath as the Regional Officer of PDP-Laban anytime soon. The latter’s come back to PDP-Laban was at first against the will of the mayor, but was not surprising for the mayor at all.  (FREEMAN)
