Rosquillos Festival in Liloan today

CEBU, Philippines - Liloan policemen are on alert today, as fourteen contingents from the barangays are set to show off their respective interpretations in the Rosquillos Festival.

Chief Inspector Richard Oliver, Liloan police chief, assured the public that security measures are in place to maintain peace and order in today’s celebration.

Oliver also asked for augmentation forces from the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

The street dancing and showdown of the Rosquillos Festival will start at 2 p.m.

On May 29, the selection and coronation of the Festival Queen will be held at 8 p.m.

Visitors from neighboring towns and balikbayans are expected to witness today’s festival.

Every year, the Rosquillos Festival attracts visitors not only from neighboring municipalities but also balikbayans and people from other places who visit the town to witness the Rosquillos Festival.

Former Liloan town vice mayor Thelma Jordan, who led the preparation for this year's festival, told The FREEMAN that for the first time, all 14 barangays will participate in the festival this year.

The municipal government provided them the amount of P100,000 as subsidy.

Leo Salundaguit, barangay Captain of Yati, and President of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC), said is happy with the participation of the 14 barangays in the festival.

Salundaguit thanked Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco for providing subsidies to the different barangays so that they can participate in the festival.

Jordan, on the other hand, said the street dancing is one of the highlights that honor the town's patron saint, San Fernando Rey.

Cash prizes and trophies will be given to the top five barangay performers and plaques will also be given to barangays.—(FREEMAN)
