Horizons 101wall restoration four days ahead of schedule

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja -

CEBU, Philippines - The restoration of the collapsed retaining wall of a condominium project in barangay Cogon- Ramos is ahead of schedule and will be completed earlier than scheduled.

Taft Property Ventures Development Corp. (TPVDC) reported yesterday that they are four days ahead of schedule in the implementation of remedial measures because they want to finish early and resume the work left sooner.

They are on their 34th day today of the 60-day period they promised to allot for the repair of the collapsed wall.

Based on their submitted and approved design, they have already installed 22 soldier piles of the 26 soldier piles they will be installing.

The shotcrete is almost finished. Shotcrete is a concrete wall applied through a pressurized pump. Tendon Anchorages are used for reinforcement. Tendons are planted 14-meter deep to the soil.

Engr. Oscar Umali, Horizons 101 Project Director, said that they do not usually use tendons even in their projects in Manila, but they are applying it here to ensure the safety of the residents in the community and to avoid the same incident in the future.

The design of the new retaining wall is “overkill”, Umali said. But he said they could not longer take a risk.

By first week of June, they are expected to finish the repairs.

By the end of next month, TPVDC also hopes that the General Contractor, who will undertake the actual construction of the building, will already be onboard.

Umali said their personnel are working 24/7 to fast track the repairs because the recent collapse had caused them too much delays.

The repairs of the wall with a more sophisticated design cost the contractor millions or more than the cost of the excavation works.

Umali said that the Office of the Building Official is monitoring their works every day.  (FREEMAN)
