9 hurt as minibus ends up on shore

CEBU, Philippines - At least nine passengers were injured when a minibus fell off a shallow ravine and landed on the seashore in Barangay Dawis Norte, Carmen town early morning yesterday.

All injured passengers of San Isidro Liner, bearing plate number GWN-961, were immediately taken to the Danao City District Hospital for treatment.

Police said among the victims, only the bus conductor identified as Jundelson Densing, 31, of Tabogon town suffered major injuries. Others injured were Gretchen Amigable, 21, of Mabolo, Cebu City; Primitiva Pamela, 18, of Poblacion, Borbon; Reynaldo Alineo, 33, of Luyang, Carmen; Ariel Roxas, 19, of Guinsay, Danao; Nolito Matigas, 44, of Sogod; Manolito Elimino, 64, of Catmon; and Shyianne Nicole Elimino, 17, and Nathan Andrie Elimino, 13, both from Lahug, Cebu City.

Later in the afternoon, three of those injured were discharged but the six others were referred to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

However, police have yet to get the names of those who were transferred to Cebu City.

The bus driver, Nestor Molihon, 46, of Tabogon town, is now detained at the Carmen Police Station pending the filing of appropriate charges in court.

PO3 Renerio Masucol, Carmen police investigator, said the bus left Tabogon terminal around 5:30 a.m. with 42 passengers bound for North Bus Terminal in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Molihon said he was traveling at a moderate speed when he suddenly lost control of the steering wheel.

He said he was left with no choice than to leave the bus run toward a ravine and fall into the shore.

“It was low tide during that time and we crashed on to the shore,” Molihon said.

He added that he was not under the influence of liquor during the incident. -/LPM

Prosecutor Naruzen Lorete has the lowest with    P222,222.
