CEBU, Philippines - The Carcar City police said they are looking at five men as possible perpetrators behind the killing of Carl Vinsun Apura, son of Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura, last Sunday morning in Sitio Upper Tubod, Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City.
“But kanang lima dili pa gyud tingali na mao basin along the way naa pa’y mo-surface nga names,” said Carcar City police chief Insp. Teodulfo Manatad.
While the investigation is ongoing, the police are also monitoring possible retaliation by the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity against members of the Tau Gamma Phi.
A Tau Gamma member is believed behind the killing of Carl Vinsun, who is an Akrho member.
But Rico Osmeña, spokesman of the Tau Gamma Phi-Cebu, questioned the investigation of the police.
He said they should not be focusing only on the Tau Gamma Phi as suspects of the crime as there were members of other fraternities around when the victim was shot.
“Ang pulis lagi usahay lang ba, lagi kay Akrho ang involved i-relate dayon sa Tau,” he said.
Osmeña also claimed that Akrho members should not also immediately point to them as culprits in the killing of Carl, instead they should leave the investigation to the police.
“We strongly deny any involvement in the shooting and we denounce such bastardly act…we urge Alpha Kappa Rho to avoid pinpointing as it would not solve the problem,” Osmeña said in a text message.
Osmeña further said they will have a meeting to discuss the matter.
Carl was attending a disco concert when he was shot once in his right temple. He was rushed to the Carcar City District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia ordered Cebu Provincial Office director Patrocinio Comendador to conduct a thorough investigation into the killing.
“My orders for CPPO under Col. Comendador is to do everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice,” she said.
The governor hopes that curfew time in every municipality shall be strictly implemented and discos with no permits must be prohibited.
“Labi na nang disco karon. Anha man gud nang mga batan-on, mag-yango-yango ra sa ulo unya ngitngit kaayo, high na diay to. Let us avoid these situations na maghatag og kahigayonan sa krimen na mahitabo,” Garcia said.
When asked if the provincial government will offer a reward for the suspect’s arrest, Garcia said she has to hear the facts of the case first. -/BRP (FREEMAN)
