Man shot by Carcar police chief identified

-

CEBU, Philippines - The man who was shot dead after allegedly trying to shoot it out with the deputy police chief of Carcar City has been identified by his relatives last Sunday afternoon.

Inspector Arvi Arbuis, the deputy chief, said the man he shot on the face with his licensed caliber .45 pistol was identified as Rico Bagol, 31, single, of Sitio Calangyaun, Barangay Napo.

Bagol was identified by his niece and his other relative at the Tupas Funeral Homes in Barangay Poblacion.

Bagol who was armed with a caliber .38 revolver was shot by Arbuis in Sitio Placer, Barangay Napo last Saturday afternoon.

The team led by Arbuis was responding to a call from a concerned citizen about an armed person. Upon seeing the police, Bagol reportedly tried to escape, which resulted to a brief chase. When Bagol drew his firearm out, Arbuis was left with no other choice but to shoot him and hit him in the face.

Bagol was rushed to the Carcar City District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Police recovered Bagol’s firearm, a cal. 38 revolver with two live bullets and one spent empty shell inside its cylinder.

For his part, Provincial Police Director Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador claimed that Arbuis cannot be held liable for Bagol’s death because what happened was a legitimate operation. — Ria Mae Y. Booc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
